Prohibited Items for Shipping

ITEMS THAT CANNOT BE SENT

Products that are prohibited from being sent via mail in Japan:

  • Aerosol spray products, cans, carbonated drinks (foam cans), gas cans
  • Lithium battery, mobile battery
  • Perfumes, nail polishes
  • Electronic cigarettes
  • Fireworks/firecrackers

Considering International Mail, dangerous items cannot be sent via air. Please check before sending if the item does not correspond to the list of dangerous goods below.

 

 

What are dangerous items by air?

There are items that are harmful to the safety operations of air flights and may pose a danger to aircraft facilities and the airport, as well as items that may be harmful to the health of customers, crew members, and airport employees; these items are called “Dangerous Aviation Products.”

Examples of items from “Dangerous Aviation Products”

For example, items that cannot be sent.

 

 

Biological material samples (shipping restriction)

Human or animal biological material samples exclusively collected for analysis, research, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, transplantation, or prevention purposes can only be sent through a contract signed with CORREIOS;

Human or animal biological material samples exclusively collected for analysis, research, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, transplantation, or prevention purposes can only be sent through a contract signed with CORREIOS;

 

Weapons and objects controlled by the Brazilian Army (shipping restriction)

Weapons and other products controlled by the Brazilian Army can only be sent through a contract with CORREIOS in the express mode SEDEX, with the mandatory use of additional services of Notice of Receipt – AR, Declared Value – VD and Controlled Product – EE, accompanied by the Traffic Guide issued by the Directorate of Inspection of Controlled Products – DFPC of the Ministry of Defense;

 

Indecent or Obscene Articles

Documents, printed matter, photographs, books, pen drives, external digital storage units, or any other article or package containing aggressive, offensive, indecent, or obscene words, marks, illustrations, drawings, or content are prohibited.

 

Checks (shipping restriction)

Checks have specific rules and follow the following criteria.
Shipment containing a check with declared value.
Shipment containing a check without declared value.


Cigarettes, tobacco derivatives, and similar products

Cigarettes, tobacco derivatives, and similar products identified by laws 9.294/1996 and 10.167/2000.


Corrosives

Definition: substances that can cause serious damage through chemical action to living tissues, other cargo, or the means of transport. All corrosive substances are prohibited.


Live Creatures (shipping restriction)

Only certain types of live creatures are accepted, if they are packed in appropriate conditions, under the sender's responsibility.

 

Dead Animal


Circulating Money

Banknotes and coins in circulation are prohibited. The transfer of cash by Correios is only allowed when carried out through the Electronic Postal Order, subject to the conditions of this service.

 

Drugs Prohibited by Law

No drug prohibited by law may be transported by Correios services. Those discovered in transit will be retained and handed over to customs or police authorities, who may take legal action against the sender and/or recipient.

 

Explosives

Definition: any chemical compound, mixture, or mechanism capable of producing an explosive-pyrotechnic effect, with substantial instantaneous release of heat and gas. All explosives are prohibited.

 

Jewellery and Precious Stones (shipping restriction)

 

Liquids (shipping restriction)

The following objects are exceptions to the prohibition of liquid transport, provided they are posted by customers who have a commercial contract with CORREIOS:

    • Cosmetics, perfumes, and personal hygiene products (with the exception of acetone);
    • Beverages;
    • General medicines (except formaldehyde, ether, alcohol);
    • Food liquids and supplements;
    • Biological material;
    • Paints and printer toners;
    • Essences;
    • Waxes, detergents, fabric softeners, and liquid soap;
    • Aquarium maintenance products;
    • Tattoo inks;
    • Automotive lubricants, exclusively by land transport.
    • * Products identified in other prohibitions may undergo changes in restriction conditions upon a detailed assessment by competent bodies.

 


Biological Material

Biological Material, except when posted by a client with a specific service contract;

Radioactive material

Definition: any material with specific activity above 74 kilobecquerel per Kg (0.002 microCuries per gram). All radioactive material is prohibited.

 

Goods with value declaration limit (shipping restriction)

Goods with a Value Declaration limit higher than that provided in the CORREIOS price tables;

Objects requiring value declaration (shipping restriction)

Mandatory value declaration for objects containing articles of gold, silver, platinum, bronze, nickel, or any other valuable metal, banknotes and coins out of circulation, stamps or any other form of franking, jewelry and precious articles, or any paper representing bearer value;

 

Objects whose Content is Detrimental to National Security.

 

Non-standard objects

Object with weight, dimensions, volume, format, addressing, franking or packaging not in accordance with regulatory standards or with those provided in international conventions and agreements approved by Brazil;

 

Objects subject to insurance payment (shipping restriction)

Articles of gold, platinum, silver, bronze, nickel or any other valuable metal, banknotes and coins out of circulation, stamps or any other form of franking, jewelry and precious articles or any paper representing bearer value can only be accepted with Optional Insurance.

 

Bird eggs (shipping restriction)

Embryonated bird eggs, provided that the sender presents at the time of posting and affixes to a visible place outside the packaging, the GTA – Animal Transit Guide, in accordance with Normative Instruction No. 18, of 07/18/2006, from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply.

 

Countries with suspended exports

It is prohibited to post objects containing any good whose export is suspended or vetoed by Brazilian authorities or any good whose import is suspended or vetoed by the authorities of the destination country.

 

Lithium Ion Batteries and Cells 

Item suspended until 06/30/2022 (Lithium Ion Batteries and Cells will not be accepted for posting on routes that involve air transport during the provision of the service by Correios, such as: SEDEX, SEDEX 10, SEDEX 12, nationally. For the PAC service, served by land transport, there are no restrictions. Internationally, Lithium Ion Batteries and Cells will not be accepted for posting, in accordance with the UPU Postal Convention and the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation).

 

Live plant

Live plant (seedlings, branches, cuttings, vine shoots, fruits, seeds, roots, tubers, bulbs, rhizomes, leaves and flowers – Decree 24.114/34);

 

Various dangerous products

Definition: products and substances that present a danger of contact, storage or transport, and that are not covered by insurance.

 

Human remains

Human remains, except for the transport of ashes from cremation, which may be admitted, provided they are properly packed in a hermetically sealed container and subsequently packaged in a sturdy cardboard box;

 

Risks to postal service

The posting of any other substance whose handling or transport constitutes a danger or may cause damage to postal agents, equipment or other objects will not be accepted.

 

Flammable Solids

Definition: solid materials that can produce fire by friction, water absorption, spontaneous chemical change or retained heat resulting from manufacturing or processing, or that can be readily ignited and burn vigorously

 

Compressed, liquefied, or dissolved gases under pressure

Definition: Permanent gases that cannot be liquefied at room temperature, liquefied gases that can become liquid under pressure at room temperature, dissolved gases that can be dissolved under pressure in a solvent.
I – All flammable compressed gases are prohibited. Examples: hydrogen, ethane, methane, propane, butane, lighters, gas cylinders for camping stoves, lanterns, etc.
II – All toxic compressed gases are prohibited. Example: chlorine, fluorine, etc.
III – All non-flammable compressed gases are prohibited. Example: carbon dioxide, nitrogen, neon, fire extinguishers containing these gases, etc.
IV – All aerosols are prohibited.

Only liquids, including gel, paste, cream, aerosol, and similar products (e.g., creams, shampoos, ointments, etc.) can be sent abroad for contract customers, provided all the following shipping conditions are met, with the exception of the destination New Zealand:

    • Content
    • Packaging and Conditioning
    • Documentation

Only liquids, including gel, paste, cream, aerosol, and similar products (e.g., creams, shampoos, ointments, etc.) can be sent abroad for contract customers, provided all the following shipping conditions are met, with the exception of the destination New Zealand:

    • Content
    • Packaging and Conditioning
    • Documentation

 

Medicines (shipping restriction)

For medicines to be posted, they must be accompanied by a medical prescription containing: a) the recipient's name, b) a recent date, c) one copy in Portuguese, and d) one copy in English.
In addition, the following must be attached to the outside of the merchandise box:

    • One copy of the proof of purchase of the medicine (invoice, fiscal coupon, or SUS proof). This purchase or acquisition document proves that the medication was acquired from a pharmaceutical institution with due fiscal regularity;
    • Three copies of the commercial invoice issued by Correios (SARA) at the agency or pre-postage for individuals;

iii. Copies of the AWB issued by Correios (SARA) at the agency or pre-postage;

    • Controlled medicines also require prior authorization from ANVISA.

All shipments are subject to compliance with any requirements of the health agency of the destination country. Therefore, both the sender and the recipient are fully responsible for prior knowledge of these requirements. Correios cannot represent customers before these agencies. Note 1: Liquid medicines cannot be sent by individuals. Their shipment is only possible if done by a legal entity with the issuance of an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) or FISQP (Chemical Product Safety Information Sheet) completed and signed by the technical person responsible for the manufacture of the medicine, with the inclusion of the registration of the professional body that represents it.
Note 2: Shipments of medicines by individuals to Portugal are not allowed; only shipments by legal entities.
Note 3: Shipments abroad of essential medical, hospital, and hygiene products for combating the coronavirus epidemic in Brazil have been suspended. This determination is due to Law No. 13.993/2020, which deals with the prohibition of exporting medical-hospital products due to the pandemic.

 

Works of art (shipping restriction)

Definition: any work created or valued primarily for its artistic rather than practical function. It is a creation that projects or reflects an artist's intention.
  Examples:
It is necessary to consult the IPHAN website for cultural assets that cannot leave the country and cultural assets that do not require Iphan's authorization to leave Brazil. Works of art that do not fall into either category can only be sent with authorization from IPHAN. Shipments of this type of item must also include:
Individual – Gift

Proforma Invoice in 04 original copies. Indicate in the commercial value: GIFT);
• AWB posting form (AWB CP72-Customs Declaration): gift.

Legal entity – Gift or sample:

Output Invoice CFOP 7949 (simple shipment, not sale);
• AWB posting form (AWB CP72-Customs Declaration): gift.

Legal entity – Sale:

Commercial Invoice;
• Sales Invoice – CFOP 7101 or 7102;
• AWB posting form (AWB CP72-Customs Declaration): sale

 

Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides

Definition: although not necessarily self-combustible, these substances can cause or contribute to the combustion of other substances. They can also cause the decomposition of explosives, react dangerously with other substances, and harm health.

 

Toxic and infectious substances, other medical substances

Definition: substances that can cause death or injury if swallowed or inhaled, or by skin contact. Substances containing microorganisms or their toxins that are known or suspected of causing disease.
